Introduction: The research focus of the article is to evaluate the knowledge of the general population, aged 21 to 50 years, about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and analyze the stereotypes that society creates and reproduces about the disorder. Methods: 400 individuals responded online to the Knowledge and Beliefs about ADHD questionnaire applied by KOS et al. (2004). Discussion: this questionnaire was used in a modified form, to adapt to a different population sample. These responses were investigated based on Bardin's (2011) categorical content analysis and related to the participants' sociodemographic data. Results: all interviewees reported some beliefs that are not scientifically supported, which can lead to inadequate diagnosis and treatment, and perpetuate stigma and prejudice about individuals with this disorder.
