INTRODUCTION: In principle, monitoring is understood as a university teaching-learning program that aims to bring students closer to the teaching experience, helping students and accompanying their development and performance within the needs of academic training. OBJECTIVE: To describe the experience of the Human Anatomy I monitorship in two contexts: the remote teaching model and the face-to-face teaching model, both with the same medical school class at the University XXX. REPORT OF THE EXPERIENCE: The Human Anatomy I monitoring activities were carried out in online classes in the year 2021 and, subsequently, in face-to-face laboratory practices starting in January 2022. DISCUSSION: In this sense, the study reports the experience and the importance of monitoring the Human Anatomy discipline in the pandemic context of COVID-19 and the difficulties and challenges that permeated teaching and learning during this period. We also analyzed the importance of the monitor-disciple relationship for a good performance of the discipline, since the monitoring, didactics and performance in the subject had divergences in both teaching methods. CONCLUSION: During this period, the experience of experiencing online and face-to-face monitoring with the same group of medical students allowed us to understand the importance of the relationship between theory and practice. It was possible to obtain a comparative, critical, and active look at the teaching in the discipline in both modalities. Moreover, the experience also made it possible to verify the importance of the face-to-face monitor-doctor relationship for the best performance of the class in the discipline.
