INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis is considered the fifth most common cause of death, alongside cardiovascular disease, respiratory infections, cancer and diarrheal diseases. In this context, smoking can make it difficult to adhere to tuberculosis treatment, increase the chances of developing the disease and increase the morbidity and mortality of individuals. Thus, the study aims to analyze the clinical-epidemiological profile of tuberculous smokers in the state of XXX, it also intends to compare the situation of case closure and verify the association between comorbidities. METHODOLOGY: Quantitative ecological study carried out using data collected from SINAN/DATASUS corresponding to confirmed cases of tuberculosis in the XXX between 2015 and 2019. Tobacco use and age group between 15 and 80 years or older were adopted as inclusion criteria. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 27.0 program. RESULTS: A total of 2,088 cases of tuberculosis smokers were obtained, with a higher prevalence of men (82.7%), young people between 20 and 39 years old (49.6%), mixed race (71.7%) and incomplete primary education (53.5%). Diabetes and alcoholism are associated with lower tuberculosis cure rates among smokers. Smokers had higher rates of death from tuberculosis compared to non-smokers. DISCUSSION: In recent years there has been an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis cases associated with smoking in the state of XXX. Risk factors, socioeconomic data and morbidities related to the condition indicate the seriousness of the situation in the state. Smoking was associated with worse outcomes in the treatment of tuberculosis. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that smokers had worse termination situations compared to non-smokers, and diabetes and alcoholism have a negative effect on the numbers of death and cure in smokers. In this way, it is expected to contribute to the development of actions that improve the control and treatment of tuberculosis among smokers.
