CHALLENGES AND LEARNINGS IN THE USE OF THE SNELLEN TEST IN CHILDREN

Objective: To describe the experience and its impact on the construction of knowledge of third-semester medical students. Data synthesis: An intervention was carried out in a school on the outskirts of a city in the interior of the state of São Paulo, where medical students applied the Snellen test so that the visual status of children could be analyzed. During the application of the test, it was possible to have a greater understanding of the theoretical content learned in the classroom, and its application in practical cases in society, strengthening the skills and techniques essential for the training of future health professionals. Conclusion: The practical activity made it possible to observe the limitations present in the scale used in front of a student with cognitive impairment and to analyze the need for other interventions that discuss issues known during the application of the test, in addition to bringing together theoretical and practical content, necessary pieces for the training of a good professional.
