Introduction: During the Coronavirus pandemic, medical support was provided to the Homeless Population (PSR), which is at greater risk of illness and development of severe disease. The objective was to analyze the consequences of the pandemic for the PSR and measures implemented to alleviate this situation.
Methodology: This is an integrative review. The search for articles was carried out in the second half of 2021 in the PubMed, VHL, ScienceDirect and Springerlink databases, with initial analysis of titles and abstracts in a double-blind manner (Kappa=0.77).
Results: 99 articles were found after applying the filters, which only 18 remained after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All articles identified PSR as a marginalized population at high risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and several measures to alleviate the situation were cited.
Discussion: PSR as a neglected group was unanimous for all authors and the causal factors are: absence of PPE and hygiene products, absence of health professionals, aggregated housing and high rate of comorbidities. Regarding auxiliary measures, the main ones were linked to the distribution of professionals and equipment to provide care to groups and shelters to promote social distancing.
Conclusion: PSR is highly vulnerable due to factors such as housing inability, lack of appropriate hygiene and safety equipment, as well as the high number of comorbidities presented by these people. Thus, measures such as the distribution of equipment and professionals for monitoring can help these people.
